Chapter 15: Casey

"GEEZ!" I BIT OUT AT the sight of Angel sitting on my veranda like she owned the place. "How on God's green earth are you here right now?" I closed my eyes and shook my head, hoping it wasn't happening. No freaking way was it happening.

The chill in the air was biting but not enough to take my mind off Kitanna's body. I stayed back to help Kat clean up after taking the girls over to the foster home to spend the weekend. Sadie wanted to go with Adira and the other kids.

I was startled when I stepped up on my porch, greeted by the coat-clad figure. I was so focused on Kitanna that I didn't see the devil child standing there at first.

I walked home at a slug pace, imagining Kitanna. Every move she made with that body was so intoxicating. I could swear the little flirt purposely teased me because she knew I wouldn't cross the line. I was so ready to attack those lips if she licked them and smiled at me one more damn time, but I couldn't allow myself to go there.

It would be fun to be with her, no strings attached. But, after what had just happened, it seemed like the strings were already fine-tuned and being plucked. Playing like those of a beautiful new guitar. But I could never face her again if I tried something and she turned me down. Or worse, my dick refused to get up or stay up. My therapist told me it was all psychological because of the way I processed Angel's betrayal.

It was clear that I wanted Kit, but I couldn't deal with her thinking I was less of a man if something went wrong. The flirting and imagination needed to be enough. She was fine being alone, so why try to mess with things that weren't broken? Or was she? Either way, none of it mattered. Kitanna made me happy. My daughter was comfortable. Nothing and nobody could ruin my mood.

I was feeling good in a way I didn't for a long time. Guess the one thing I specialized in was underestimating the levels Angel would stoop to just to make my life difficult.

"Why are you here?" I snapped.

"I'm here to see my child."

"You don't have the right to be here unannounced. As far as I'm concerned, you're trespassing. You lost that right when you started lapsing again."

"Is that any way to treat the mother of your child, Casey?"

How could my name sound so gorgeously arousing coming from Kit but make my skin crawl, coming from her lips?

She stood up and ripped open her coat before I could make sense of what was happening. Why in the hell was she dressed like a stripper to visit our child at eight in the night?

"What the hell is wrong with you? I live around here. People respect me. Whatever is going on in your delusional mind, I suggest you get a grip on reality."
